Differences Between Three Ply Face Masks and Cloth Masks
Three Ply Face Masks
A three-ply face mask is a loose-fitting, disposable apparatus that creates a physical barrier between the mouth and nose of the wearer and potential contaminants in the immediate environment.
If worn properly, a three-ply face mask is meant to help block large particle droplets, splashes, sprays, or splatter that may contain germs (viruses and bacteria) and keeping them from reaching your mouth and nose. They may also help reduce exposure of your saliva and respiratory secretions to others.
Cloth Masks
The filtration effectiveness of cloth masks is generally lower than that of three-ply masks and respirators however, cloth masks may provide some protection if well designed and used correctly but certainly exhibit a great lack of filtration.
Avoid masks with print designs that cover the nose and mouth area or ones that use harmful chemicals in the screen printing process.
